Darkchild Opens Up About Working With Kylie Minogue, Says Britney Spears Was A Reference Point
Rodney Jerkins is currently starring in NUVOtv’s new reality series House Of Joy — an uplifting look at his attempt to kickstart wife Joy Enriquez‘s music career.
Yesterday (July 22) I spoke with the legendary R&B producer about the hit show (that interview will appear on the site tomorrow) but couldn’t resist asking about his time in the studio with Kylie Minogue. The pair worked together in April, shortly after the Australian pop icon signed to Roc Nation. See what the man better known as Darkchild had to say about creating beats for the dance diva after the jump.
Given that the knob-twiddler is famous for slick R&B productions, I was interested to know if he was adapting his signature sound to embrace Kylie’s dance-pop leanings — or if she was getting her Hard Candy on and going urban. It turns out they’re meeting in the middle — with Britney Spears mentioned as a reference point. ”You know I worked with Britney before and Britney helped me prepare for people like Kylie,” he said.
“So working on Kylie I’m just making sure that the music represents her,” Jerkins continued. “I have some of the dance feeling [on the recording] but the rhythms will be fresh and new, something that she hasn’t done, coming from me. I think it’s just the perfect world, something that she hasn’t done and something that I haven’t done and putting those two together.” So a bass-heavy club anthem? Sounds pretty good to me.
Are you excited to hear what the unlikely duo cook up in the studio? Let me know in the comments.
